The Best Anti-Inflammatory Smoothie I Turn to During Eczema Flare-Ups
Share
I wasn't expecting it.
After five years of mostly clear skin—five years of learning, healing, and doing all the "right" things—it came roaring back. The kind of eczema flare that leaves you itching through the night, feeling like a dry desert lives on your face, hiding behind makeup, and scanning every label, every food, every moment for answers.
And if I’m being honest... it broke me a little.
There’s something about the return of an old struggle that hits differently. It’s not just the physical discomfort—though that alone is relentless—it’s the emotional weight that tags along. The anxiety of not knowing what triggered it. The frustration of doing everything right, yet still feeling like your body is at war with you. The guilt that whispers, Maybe you missed something. Maybe you could’ve stopped it.
It took me straight back to the early days. The spiraling Google searches. The mental inventory of every product and bite I’ve put into or on my body. The urge to “fix it” fast, even though I know healing rarely works that way.
So this morning, I made myself a smoothie.
Not just any smoothie. A calm-in-a-cup, anti-inflammatory, nourishing blend that felt like a tiny act of rebellion against the flare. A reminder that my body isn’t broken—it’s communicating. A gesture of care, not punishment.
Here’s what I blended up:
🌿 Eczema-Soothing Smoothie Recipe
- 1 cup Califia Organic Vanilla Almond Milk (clean ingredients, no gums - just smooth, gut-friendly goodness)
- 1/2 frozen banana (just enough sweetness to soothe the soul and support your adrenals)
- 1/4 cup frozen organic wild blueberries (these tiny powerhouses are full of antioxidants and skin-loving compounds)
- 1tbsp Barney Butter Unsweetened Almond Powder (a clean source of protein & healthy fats - easy to digest and gentle on skin triggers)
- 1tbsp ground flaxseed (loaded with Omega-3's to help calm inflammation from the inside out, and a great source of lignans, a plant compound that can help balance estrogen)
- 1 scoop Truvani Vanilla Plant-Based Protein (organic, clean, and free from weird stuff - because your skin doesn't need more drama)
As I sit here writing out this recipe for you, I'm sipping this smoothie slowly, almost ceremoniously, letting the quiet reminder settle in: healing isn’t linear. And taking care of myself—even in small, smoothie-shaped ways—is always worth it.
If you're in the middle of a flare-up right now, I see you. It’s okay to feel all of it. It’s okay to cry. And it’s okay to make a smoothie and call that a win.
You can find some of the products I use (and trust) in my Amazon shop here. I only share what I’ve personally used in my healing journey.
Here’s to skin that tells a story. And to listening—one sip at a time. 💛
